Membership

Social members can upgrade to be a Registered (full/competition) member by paying the price difference between the Social and Registered fee at their club. The expiry date for the upgraded membership remains the same.

The memberships rates that Qld Badminton receives per membership are as follows:

• Adult Competition (full) - $55
• Adult Social - $35
• Junior (U16 as of 31 Dec) - $50

All prices includes GST

These are the amounts that Qld Badminton receive, the Regional Associations and Clubs will include their own rates as well (rates vary).

Players are not able to join Qld Badminton directly.

All players are required to obtain a membership on the third time they attend a club. If they advise that they are a member via another club it should be checked with the Regional Affiliated Association. If they are unable to check the status of membership then the request should be forward to Qld Badminton for verification.

No, players are not permitted to join QBA directly and must join through an affiliated club.

Qld Badminton runs a rolling membership. This means that membership expires 12 months from the date a person joined.

All revenue received from memberships goes towards affiliation costs with the national body, player and club insurances, and the Qld State teams. It should be noted that the Qld Badminton Committee is occupied soley by volunteers and that the Committee and those officials assisting at QBA events do so in a volunteer capacity, and are not paid. QBA events are run for the benefit of its members.

QBA pays an annual affiliation fee to the national body, Badminton Australia (approx. $20,448 in 2025), indexed by CPI.

This fee is not based on the number of memberships the state may have (see Badminton Australia Constitution Item 11 - Subscription and Fees https://www.badminton.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Constitution-of-Badminton-Australia-Ltd.pdf).

Affiliation with the national body enables Queensland members to participate in National Championships, nominate and be selected for the National Squads, and enables members to play in tournaments nationally.

In addition to the affiliation fee with the national body QBA contributes approximately $10,000 - $15,000 annually towards the Qld State teams at National Carnivals (currently five per year). These costs include team entry fees, uniforms for players representing the state for the first time, and the costs of sending officials (eg. coaches, managers and umpires), without which a team would not be allowed to attend.

QBA purchases insurance for members and affiliated clubs/associations (personal accident, public liability and professional indemnity) annually. The cost of insurance for the state was approximately $8,900 in 2023.

Players are covered by personal accident insurance only at affiliated clubs running sanctioned events. All sanctioned tournaments are listed on the Qld Badminton website. All Open tournaments (ie. contain ranking points) once approved by Badminton Australia will be listed on both the Qld and Badminton Australia calendars.

Revenue The main source of revenue for QBA to afford items such as the BA affiliation fees, insurances, and state teams contributions is via player membership.
