We are a not-for profit organization whose primary purpose is to conduct and develop badminton throughout Queensland in partnership with its Member Associations. Where to play Currently over 1000 members engaged in QBA activities such as: school partipation programs, tournaments, coaching clinics, and junior camps. Our vision is to remain committed to the highest standards for the conduct and development of Queensland Badminton focusing on regional areas. Board of Directors The QBA Board of Directors a group of dedicated volunteers vested with responsibility for the management of the organization. Board members are elected by the affiliates at our annual AGM. QBA Community Objectives The QBA is committed to the growth, participation and interest in Queensland Badminton through a range of strong participation and development programs. Benefits for QBA members: - Coaches experience increased satisfaction as they will possess the knowledge and ability to help youths achieve maximum potential.
- Elite junior athletes will feel increased self confidence and achieve better results as they learn advanced skills and techniques.
- Highly trained coaches will benefit all QBA junior members who participate in local club activities.
- Enhancing the skills of coaches and elite athletes will improve all members through local and state-wide tournaments, fixtures and social nights.
- Coaching clinics will increase the pool of qualified coaches thereby ensuring that all state and regional teams can improve.
Benefits for the CommunityIt is well noted that community members take pride in seeing local athletes shine. The QBA desires to provide the opportunity for local badminton players and coaches to improve and excel at a national level. In doing so, it provides the means that allows the community to both identify and support their athletes. This will contribute to an enhanced collective image and positive outlook for local citizens. In that sense, every community member has the opportunity to benefit from those athletes who represent their suburb, city and state. The QBA delivers badminton to the community through: - School HPE classes (grade 4 to 10)
- Regional sport education tours
- Local camps and clubs

Memberships There are two categories of members: - Registered (full/competition)
- Registered Junior (full/competition) (U16 as of 31 Dec)
- Social
A social membership is for players who participate in non-competition club activities only (eg. social sessions at a club). For players who wish to play in a QBA sanctioned activity they must be a Registered (full/competition) member. Such activities include: - Tournament (listed on the QBA calendar)
- Competitions conducted by a Regional Association or at an affiliated Club (eg. Toowoomba) – including team base competitions/tournaments.
- Participate in coaching (eg. State Squad Coaching or Club Coaching).
- Registered (full/competition) members are permitted to participate in any affiliated tournament throughout Australia. It also permits members to play in any sanctioned activity operated by the Queensland Badminton Association or any affiliated Association of Badminton Australia.
Note that all Open tournaments (ie. contains ranking points) will also be listed on the National Calendar on the Badminton Australia website. Social members can upgrade to be a Registered (full/competition) member by paying the price difference between the Social and Registered fee at their club. The expiry date for the upgraded membership remains the same. Note: Associations and affiliated clubs(eg. Toowoomba) may determine whether they offer both types of membership. What are the QBA membership rates? The memberships rates that Qld Badminton receives per membership are as follows: - Registered (full/competition) - $40 (inc GST) (increased from $37.50 in 2020)
- Registered Junior (full/competition) (U16 as of 31 Dec) - $30 (no change for approx 10 years)
- Social - $30 (inc GST) (no change for approx 10 years)
- These are the amount Qld Badminton receives, the Regional Association and Club may include their own rates as well which can vary. Players are not able to join Qld Badminton directly.
When does a player need to join? All players are required to obtain a membership on the third time they attend a club. If they advise that they are a member via another club it should be checked with the Regional Affiliated Association. If they are unable to check the status of membership then the request should be forward to Qld Badminton for verification. Can a person join Qld Badminton directly? No, players are not permitted to join QBA directly and must join through an affiliated club. How long does membership last? Qld Badminton runs a rolling membership. This means that membership expires 12 months from the date a person joined. How is the membership money used? All revenue received from memberships goes towards affiliation costs with the national body, player and club insurances, and the Qld State teams. It should be noted that the Qld Badminton Committee is occupied soley by volunteers and that the Committee and those officials assisting at QBA events do so in a volunteer capacity, and are not paid. QBA events are run for the benefit of its members. Affiliation Fees QBA pays an annual affiliation fee to the national body, Badminton Australia (approx. $20,448 in 2025), indexed by CPI. This fee is not based on the number of memberships the state may have (see Badminton Australia Constitution Item 11 - Subscription and Fees https://www.badminton.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Constitution-of-Badminton-Australia-Ltd.pdf). Affiliation with the national body enables Queensland members to participate in National Championships, nominate and be selected for the National Squads, and enables members to play in tournaments nationally. In addition to the affiliation fee with the national body QBA contributes approximately $10,000 - $15,000 annually towards the Qld State teams at National Carnivals (currently five per year). These costs include team entry fees, uniforms for players representing the state for the first time, and the costs of sending officials (eg. coaches, managers and umpires), without which a team would not be allowed to attend. Insurance QBA purchases insurance for members and affiliated clubs/associations (personal accident, public liability and professional indemnity) annually. The cost of insurance for the state was approximately $8,900 in 2023. Players are covered by personal accident insurance only at affiliated clubs running sanctioned events. All sanctioned tournaments are listed on the Qld Badminton website. All Open tournaments (ie. contain ranking points) once approved by Badminton Australia will be listed on both the Qld and Badminton Australia calendars. Revenue The main source of revenue for QBA to afford items such as the BA affiliation fees, insurances, and state teams contributions is via player membership.
